Thought my meeting tonight would take maybe a half an hour and then I could immediately watch Chopped and go to bed. But then it took like 2 hours and I had a bunch of things to start doing. So much for that plan…

And of course I’m now feeling fairly awake after being exhausted all day today and the past few days.

Very good lesson tonight (well, last night at this point), but definitely made the pony and I work hard (especially given that I’m transitioning from 5 straight days of nonstop helping with, stressing over, and participating in other’s events to planning and putting on my own events in the next 2 weeks)!

We warmed up with square turns and leg yields thrown in, some no-stirrup trotting to really get him using and holding himself well, transitions from canter to halt to forehand turn and repeat, teardrop turns with lead changes at the canter, and then counter-cantering. Picking up the outside lead was probably 50-50, and he started out breaking to a trot partway through the turns. We were able to get and keep the counter canter both ways all the way around and then try circling on it (we almost made a full circle to the left and did to the right).

And then he looked super cute wearing a nice cooler of my trainer’s and gobbling up treats a mom of one of the younger girls was feeding him.

The past 4 days were crazy busy and stressful in a kinda good way.

Sad I couldn’t go to the local horse show where those from our barn that went did really well. At least I was able to take a few hours for myself on Saturday and put in a good ride on my boy. We practiced some square turns and spirals while watching a flock of turkeys get closer and closer to the ring.

I was hoping to try going to the job conference/fair thing that’s happening on campus today and tomorrow since I haven’t been to one yet and there’s a lot of really awesome companies coming. But I’m just so tired and unprepared after this weekend that I think non-class time is just going to be for catching up on sleep and riding.

  • Mom: ' well you need to call them and ask.'
  • Me: I dont think you understand how much i cannot do that.

I have such a good pony!

Nice lesson tonight doing flatwork and then counting strides into a jump that we did a figure 8 over. Some good counting and some not so good counting (that at one point resulted in a miscommunication and more of a trip/stumble than a jump that he totally saved us through), but pretty good overall.

Then 2 others and I got on bareback to cool the horses down/make sure they were dry. It turned into more playing around and seeing who could canter a little without feeling ridiculous (I cantered in just a halter and lead ropes - woo!). And then I ended up cleaning up and putting out all of our horses.

If Orlando Bloom is really going to be in Pirates 5, I might actually go see it. If they get Keira Knightley to return, I’d totally watch it. If they get Johnny Depp out of it, I’d be first in line at the earliest showing.
